The trip exceeded my expectations. If you're thinking of birding in Panama, I'd say do it! And book well ahead so you can visit all of the lodges in the Canopy Family of birding lodges.
The male Shining Honeycreeper looks a lot like the male Red-legged Honeycreeper except it has yellow legs and black on the throat.

The Shining Honeycreeper has a smaller range than the Red-legged Honeycreeper, found mostly in Central America.
I simply adore the Bananaquit!
The small bird is as cute as its name.
It has a range from parts of southern Mexico to much of Central and South America.
Here is one in the Cerro Azul region near Panama City, photographed in April of this year:
The Green Honeycreeper must be one of the few birds whose name reflects the coloration of the female. (the male is a turquoise color)
It has a similar range to the Bananaquit, with a disjunct range along the coast of Brazil.

The Clay-colored Thrush is widespread from southern Texas to northern Colombia. It's like a robin that lost its color.
The Red-legged Honeycreeper is the opposite of the dull Clay-colored Thrush, it is one of the more flamboyant birds in Panama.
Its range is scattered in parts of Mexico, Central and South America.
It rained at some point near every day during our Panama trip, often heavily.
Here is a female Red-legged Honeycreeper who braved the rain to investigate a bird-feeding platform at our hotel.

Our small hotel was in a neighborhood of Cerro Azul (near Panama City) which had dozens of Chestnut-headed Oropendola nests.

The Thick-billed Euphonia can be found in Panama and parts of northern and central South America.

Here are three tanagers that visited bird feeders at our hotel in Cerro Azul, a wooded area not far from Panama City.
The Golden-hooded Tanager is found from southern Mexico to Colombia and Ecuador:
The Crimson-backed Tanager is found only in Panama, Colombia and a small area in Venezuela:
How would you like to have the name "Plain-colored Tanager"?
The iridescent blue shoulder is usually not visible, but it shows nicely here, which belies the moniker "plain."
This bird is only found in Panama and Colombia.
