Some travelers say that Baja California doesn't begin until you reach Cataviña.
I would beg to differ, but Cataviña presents a wonderland of cacti, many of which do not exist anywhere else in the world.
Here are a few examples of the beautiful landscape of Cataviña:
In the Cataviña desert one can walk about ten minutes from the highway to reach a small cave with an impressive display of rock art.
No one knows for sure how old the art is, a quick online search gives various estimates from 500-10,000 years old!

All male orioles are flamboyant, the male Scott's Oriole is as flamboyant as any!

The Gray Thrasher is found only in Baja California and Baja California Sur.

The Ash-throated Flycatcher is one of the more commonly seen birds in the Baja California desert:
These ospreys had a nest next to a roadside south of San Felipe.
Though the next was near a highway, they were not happy when I got out of my car to photograph them!
I didn't stay long.
