These breeding Cattle Egrets shared a tree with yesterday's Snowy Egrets and Bare-faced Ibises:
Did you know?
Cattle Egrets originated in Africa and Asia. There were no Cattle Egrets in South America until the late 19th Century, and none in the United States until the 1930s! Apparently they flew to our hemisphere on their own, and their spread has been aided by the abundance of modern farming.
The Cattle Egret has been known to place its eggs in the nest of other Cattle Egrets, as well as other species of herons and egrets, and is promiscuous in its mating habits.
