Every spring, Swainson's Hawks migrate from South America to the northern reaches of North America. Many migrate in large numbers through Borrego Springs, arriving late each afternoon and leaving the following morning, sometimes staying a while if there are caterpillars to eat.
Each year a hawk watch is organized by biologist and Borrego resident Hal Cohen. More information can be found here. These hawk migrations are one of natures wonders, and should be seen at least once. It should be reaching its peak any day now (mid-March). Check it out!
