I am always happy to see Lincoln's Sparrows. From a distance, I often think they are "ordinary" sparrows, but a closer look shows the subtle wash of color and fine streaking which makes them such handsome birds.
This one was photographed in Twentynine Palms, California, in March, 2018.
Lincoln's Sparrow was named after Thomas Lincoln (1812-1883) a naturalist who accompanied Audubon on a trip to Labrador (Newfoundland) and shot the specimen that now bears his name! Thomas had no relation to President Lincoln.
