Lindo Lake

Also in Lakeside, California, is Lindo Lake, one of my go-to spots for bird photography.

El Monte Park

El Monte Park, in Lakeside, California, is becoming one of my favorite spots for bird photography. There is a native plant garden, and some of the irrigation pipes drip slightly, and this water attracts birds. As they say, sometimes the best strategy for birding is to pick a good spot and let the birds come to you.

These photos were all taken on a September afternoon of this year.

Black Turnstone

The Black Turnstone (which is really brown) breeds in Alaska and winters on the Pacific coast.

Here is one in La Jolla, photographed in September of this year.

Brown Pelicans

There was a large fire in east San Diego County on September 6 of this year.

That afternoon I headed to La Jolla expecting a colorful sunset.

Deer, Deer!

I believe that these are White-tailed Deer, photographed along backroads near Sierra Vista, Arizona, photographed in August of this year.

Beatty's Guest Ranch

Another hummingbird hotspot in Southeast Arizona is Beatty's Guest Ranch, at the end of the road in Miller Canyon, near Hereford, Arizona.

It can be experienced in a day visit, or you can stay at one of their nice guesthouses, get to know their friendly bloodhounds and pick fresh apples in their large orchard.
