As winter approaches that means that Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese will be arriving at the Salton Sea.
Well, as of October 9, there were at least about 150 Sandhill Cranes near Unit 1 of the Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge on Vendel Road. No Snow Geese, yet, however. Maybe they have arrived by now.
I waited patiently until sunset, hoping the cranes in a field east of me would fly in their usual westerly direction towards me into the nice light. Well, they all flew northeast, away from me!
Oh well. I did take this picture as a few were repositioning themselves in the fields to the west.
The picture did not have much color to begin with, so I converted it to black and white and added a bit of sepia.
