Great-tailed Grackle
Most birders are familiar with Cattle Egrets. Well, there is a newly identified species, the Sheep Grackle!
I photographed these Great-tailed Grackles near the Salton Sea last month. Though only females are in this picture, there were also males nearby. The sheep only occasionally were disturbed by the birds, it seems that the birds were eating insects out of the sheep's wool.
I'll get back to posting birds from my Grand Canyon trip soon!

White-breasted Nuthatch
A White-breasted Nuthatch, photographed near the south rim of the Grand Canyon in early September of this year.
Though it looks like the bird was illuminated by flash, it is actually just rays of light from the late afternoon sun filtering through a small gap in the trees.

Another likely Rufous Hummingbird (female or immature), photographed at Red Rock State Park, near Sedona, Arizona.
Out of focus branches and leaves blur the framing of the bird.

Anna's Hummingbird
An Anna's Hummingbird, photographed at Red Rock State Park, near Sedona, Arizona.
The soft framing of the bird is due to shooting through a small opening in the leaves of the tree.

Rufous Hummingbird
I believe that this is a female or immature Rufous Hummingbird. Photographed at Red Rock State Park, near Sedona, Arizona, in late August of this year.
The bird was perched momentarily in a small shaft of sunlight within a tree. The pink highlights in the background are from the sun illuminating leaves in the tree.

Curve-billed Thrasher
Another (perhaps the same?) Curve-billed Thrasher, photographed in Lost Dutchman State Park in Arizona, in late August of this year.
There are lots of things in this photo I'm not crazy about (such as the lighting), but I like the pose of the bird.
