Green Kingfisher

The Green Kingfisher can be found in southern Texas and Arizona, through most of Mexico, Central America and parts of South America.

Here is one photographed on the Antigua River in Veracruz, Mexico, in September of this year.

Altamira Oriole

The Altamira Oriole looks quite a bit like a Hooded Oriole.

It can be found in the southernmost tip of Texas (Rio Grande Valley), extending south through parts of Mexico and Central America.

Black-throated Magpie-Jay

The Tijuana River Valley is the most southwest area in California. Birding there can be interesting, as it contains a number of species that are thought to be escapees from the pet trade in Tijuana.

The Black-throated Magpie-Jay is typically found in western Mexico, but a flock has been established in the Tijuana River Valley for some time.
