I was reviewing some older photos recently and came across this one. Though photos of aspen (?) groves are somewhat of a nature photographer's cliché, I thought this was a nice scene.

A Rose-breasted Grosbeak, photographed in May of this year at Rondeau Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.
It is easy to see how this bird got its name, with its rose breast and large (gros) beak.
This Eastern Phoebe was looking for food over a river in Oak Openings Park in Toledo, Ohio.

The female Scarlet Tanager does not have the bright red coloration of the male. This bird was also photographed at Point Pelee the same morning as the previous photo.
This Scarlet Tanager was photographed early in the morning at Point Pelee, Ontario, Canada in May of this year. Point Pelee is an arrival point for many migrating birds, as it extends south into Lake Erie and is the first land that these birds see.
I imagine that this bird was tired from flying across the lake the night before, as it seemed to be entirely undisturbed by my presence as it fed in the bushes for quite some time. Being this close to such a beautiful bird was a rare treat.
Few bird photographers point their camera at the House Sparrow, myself included. Since this one was posed nicely, I decided to take its photo.
The House Sparrow is considered somewhat of an invasive species in the United States, having been introduced from Europe in the 1850s, and often displaces native birds. It is usually found around people or their buildings.

This was my first Pileated Woodpecker sighting, quite a memorable event. The call of the Pileated Woodpecker fills the forest, and its incredibly large size (twice as long as an Acorn Woodpecker) is remarkable.
Photographed at Blendon Woods Park in Columbus, Ohio, just down the trail from the Wild Turkey in the previous post. Though the woodpecker did not approach for a closer photograph, I was still thrilled to have seen it.
