Please join me for the opening reception of The Art of Bird Photography, my upcoming solo show at the Mission Trails Park Visitor Center Gallery.
This show features 49 all-new bird photographs from California, Arizona, and Mexico. This is my third solo show in six years, and if I may say so, it will be the best!
The opening reception will be held this Sunday, April 26, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. There is no charge and refreshments will be served. If you cannot make the reception, you may visit the visitor center free of charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. The show will hang April 26 through Friday, May 22.
All works are for sale and a portion of sales will benefit the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation.

There was one endemic bird near the top of my wish list for my trip to Oaxaca, the Ocellated Thrasher. Ocellated means "covered with eye-like spots." This thrasher is found only in southern Mexico.
Thanks to local guide Roque Santiago, I was able to see one. This bird can be notoriously difficult to approach closely. We were only able to get a somewhat distant look, but close enough for this cropped photo.

The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher is a permanent resident of nearly all of Mexico and much of the southern-most United States, and is found in most of the United States during the summer.

The Brown-backed Solitaire is a thrush found in southern Mexico. Here is one, heavily backlit, in the foothills east of Oaxaca City, Mexico.

The White-throated Towhee is found only in southern Mexico, mostly in the state of Oaxaca, and is a common bird there. It bears a very strong resemblance to the California Towhee, and would probably not feel too out of place in my back yard in San Diego!
