Taylor Phinney

Taylor Phinney rides to a third place finish in the time trial stage of this year's Tour of California. Phinney's armbands and legbands feature the stars and stripes, having won the US national time trial championship in 2010.

Phinney regained the US national time trial championship last weekend.

Mark Cavendish

Mark Cavendish, one of the top sprinters in bicycle racing, here competes in a time trial in Folsom, California, the second stage of the Tour of California. He wears the yellow jersey, having won a sprint finish in Sacramento the previous day.

Bradley Wiggins

I recently viewed a number of stages of the Tour of California bicycle race. The overall race was dominated by Bradley Wiggins, winner of the 2012 Tour de France. Here he rides in the time trial in Folsom (east of Sacramento). He would win the time trial, gain the leader's yellow jersey, and never relinquish it for the rest of the Tour.

I chose a spot to photograph where the background would be in shadow.

Redhead

I do not often see the Redhead duck in the San Diego area, but this one was at Lake Murray in La Mesa for at least a few days in March of this year. (Thanks to my sister for alerting me!)
