Necklaces
It's been a while since I've posted any photos from Mexico (or any non-bird pictures!) That may change soon as I have another trip coming up. In the meantime, here's a picture of necklaces for sale in the town square of Tecate, Baja California. The photo was taken as the last rays of the afternoon sunlight passed through the colored beads.

Black-tailed Gnatcatcher
It's interesting how a long lens used on a fairly close subject will sometimes give the background a positively dreamy rendering. (not just pleasingly out of focus, but misty and dreamlike) I think this photo, shot in November of 2011, in Anza-Borrego State Park, comes close to that effect.

White-headed Woodpecker
Photographed recently in Idyllwild, California.
The sun was just about to leave the area around the Idyllwild Nature Center when a White-headed Woodpecker appeared for less than a minute or so. The background was in deep shadow, thus appearing black in the photo.
