White-headed Woodpecker

The White-headed Woodpecker is a somewhat rare bird that can be found in Southern California mountains, especially around Idyllwild. On two visits to Idyllwild, I have seen a number of them, both at the Idyllwild Nature Center and near Hurkey Creek Park. Here, one makes a late afternoon visit to the Idyllwild Nature Center for a drink of water.
