Lily

Another flower, lit by the afternoon sun filtering through trees, at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Rather than being distracting, I like the curving twigs in front and behind the flowers.

Hummingbird Silhouette

The iridescent wings of a hummingbird glow in the afternoon sun. I think, but am not certain, that this is an Anna's hummingbird.

Great Egret

There are dozens of cattle egrets, white-faced ibises, and great egrets now nesting at the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. Here a great egret carries material back to the nest.

Greater Roadrunner

There is a lightly traveled trail at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park called the Baja Garden trail. It is located on a beautiful hillside which reminded me of the desert near Cataviña, Baja California.

A (non-captive) greater roadrunner showed up and posed, as if on cue!

House Wren

This house wren was one of many wild birds enjoying the environment of the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park.

Bald Eagle (captive)

Another captive bird from a recent trip to San Diego Zoo's Safari Park. According to the sign in front of their cage, the bald eagles on exhibit have injuries which mean they can no longer fly.

Chilean Flamingo (captive)

It's not often that I photograph captive birds, but I recently visited the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park (previously known as the Wild Animal Park). Who can resist a shot of a flamingo?

I visited the park specifically to discover what wild birds are found there, and I'll post some of them soon.

Snowy Egret

Photographed a few days ago at the San Diego River near Robb Field. There were reeds both in front and behind the egret, giving the effect which I found pleasing. Shot about 20 minutes before sunset.

Sun Hat

A young girl sitting beneath me at the Indian Wells tennis stadium enjoyed the matches with a sun hat and colorful nail polish.
