I just spent a few days in the vicinity of California's Highway 395, looking at various birding spots. The last spot was a short hiking trail in Big Bear. This short trail is reputed to be the best mountain birding spot in southern California!
I saw, I think, three birds, one close enough for an average photo. But the trail was simply lovely, along a stream down to a meadow. The stream was surrounded by red and yellow flowers. Indian paintbrush and lupine I recognized. So I decided to take a few pictures of the flowers instead of birds, though it was a little ungainly pointing my enormous bird lens at the delicate flowers.
Perhaps one of my naturalist friends can identify this cute little daisy for me:
