U is for Underwater

Damion Berger uses the skills of a street photographer and takes them, of all places, underwater! His series, In The Deep End, is the most amazing portfolio I have seen in a very long time! Just click on "slide show" after the website opens.

His other portfolio, RSVP, shows a master at work in what I think of as three-dimensional composition. He places his candid (and mostly very wealthy) subjects in their environment with the skill of a landscape photographer. E is for Emotion

Fernando Ochoa exults after a successful series of passes in Sunday's bullfight at Tijuana's Plaza Monumental. His second bull of the afternoon would receive an indulto, sparing its life, because of the bravery of the bull and the performance of Ochoa.

My first inclination was to crop the picture, showing just the bullfighter. I quickly realized that showing the whole picture with the cheering spectator (as well as the friend taking a cell-phone photo, and the spectators cheering in the shadows), effectively and pleasingly completed the composition.

C is for Cancer Center

Thanks to my friend Peter Fay, he and I have a two-person show now hanging at the San Diego Cancer Center, located at 1200 Garden View Road, Suite 200, Encinitas. 

Peter's photographs, entitled Around The World, are a greatest hits of his fine-art travel photos from around the globe, from Antartica to Alaska.

My photos, entitled The Poetry of Flowers, consist of 14 of my abstract flower pictures.

Reaction to the show, from patients and staff of the cancer center, has been all positive, with the photos giving a peaceful presence to the facility. 

The photos are hung using an innovative hanging system designed by Peter. The system allows for new shows to be hung without the necessity of damaging the walls with nails.

The photos are viewable to the public Monday through Friday, 9-5, through July 3. There will be a reception on Sunday June 28, from 2-5 p.m. I hope to see you there!
