One of my tennis photos was used as a promotional poster for a benefit tournament this weekend. The Semiahmoo Tennis Association, in Washington State, has a member with leukemia. This tournament was organized to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Washington. I hope it was a success!

Bird Watcher's Digest
Two of my photographs are in the September/October issue of Bird Watcher's Digest!
The cover article features one of my favorite birds, the northern flicker (a kind of woodpecker). Two of my pictures illustrate the article. One of them is shown here, on the left (click to enlarge):
That photo was taken earlier this year at Lake Hemet, in southern California, a very nice spot for birding.

Waiting For An Audience
Most who know me know that I spent 100 days over five years photographing Route 66.
I put together a Blurb book of my photographs two years ago to show my work to publishers. While I don't yet have a publisher (that's a long story!) my book is viewable online (and can be purchased, as well!).
Unlike every other Route 66 book, this one is organized not geographically, but by subject matter, (gas stations, diners, motels, etc.)

In the mail yesterday came Bird Watcher's Digest, with one of my pictures published (a small image on page 93), and a nice check!
I now receive the "image want list" for three bird magazines, and the first set of images I submitted was for the November/December Bird Watcher's Digest. They chose one image of a roadrunner. It's not what I consider a great shot (or even close to it!), but it suited their editorial need.
This teaches me that despite how wonderful we think our images are, editors will choose what works best for their publication and the ideas they are trying to convey, and not necessarily choose what we consider our most artistic images.
