The Brown-headed Cowbird has been one of my nemesis birds for a long time. No, not because it's brood parasite (it lays its eggs in other nests and lets other birds raise them), rapidly expanding its population at the expense of other songbirds, but because it is a very common bird which I simply had not seen or photographed! Perhaps I had just overlooked it in mixed flocks of blackbirds, I don't know. Sunday, at Lake Hodges, however, I noticed a small flock of Brown-headed Cowbirds, and one of them stayed perched long enough for a photo.
