A Curve-billed Thrasher, photographed at Lost Dutchman State Park, near Phoenix, Arizona, in late August of this year.
When I saw this bird singing atop this bush, I immediately noticed the very interesting, if not challenging, lighting. The bird is backlit, but the background (the Superstition Mountains) is still in shadow, so even though the bird is not lit from the front, it is still stands out somewhat from the background. The backlighting, of course, provides a nice rim-lighting effect that portrait photographers like to employ.
